Child Protection Training
Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport
All coaches and Welfare Officers are required to complete Child Protection training and to renew this every three years.
The qualification for those working in Scotland is the Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport course. This course can be on-line and a few are now running as in person courses. You can find details of CWPS courses here. You do not have to be a member of a sport or organisation to book onto their Child Protection courses. It could be members get a discount but most courses are open to all and any that are closed to members only will inform you at the point of booking.
When it comes to renewing your CWPS course after three years you can choose to do the CWPS renewal certificate. Scottish Fencing would recommend that Welfare Officers and Coaches take the Renewal certificate as it widens your knowledge. You will still need to complete the central governance module but other modules cover online safety and mental health for example.
After three years you will need to repeat the CWPS course. In other words every six years you will do a CWPS course.
Child Wellbeing and Protection Officer (CWPO) Training
All Welfare Officers are required to complete the CWPO training in addition to the CWPS training.

Child Protection Training for Committees and Board members
sportScotland also offer a short module for governing body Board members and club committee members and club trustees. This is a short on-line module which is easy to access and is highly recommended for anyone sitting on a committee.
