The Scottish Fencing Pathways Squad brings together the most committed young fencers from across Scotland to practice together regularly, as well as providing educational opportunities for the athletes and their parents.

The Rising Stars series of competitions are the premier youth sabre development events in Scotland where future potential gathers to take their early steps towards developing their skills in a performance environment.

·        Great for parents and fencers to learn about fencing competitions

·        Learn how to prepare for competition

·        Learn to compete

·        How does the scoring system work?

·        Learn how to interact positively with competitors, referees and spectators

·        A great cafe and time for parents and competitors to get to know each other

Format: A unique format designed to maximise development opportunities. One round of poule fights to 5 points followed by one round of poule fights to 15 points (10 points for u12's). No elimination.

Age Groups: U12 and U14 events for all boys and girls. You have to be u12 or u14 at the time of the competition. You can enter both events.

Medals: We are rewarding your commitment to development, so fencers who attend 1/3 events get a bronze medal: 2/3 events get a silver medal: and 3/3 attendances earns a gold medla.

Times: U12 events start at 10am and finish around 1230pm. U14 events start at 1pm and finish around 4pm.

Rising Stars II: Saturday 2nd March 2024

Rising Stars III: Saturday 27th April 2024

Entry: Entry will be via online booking which is essential. Entry details will be posted shortly.

Cost: Cost is £12 per event.

Scottish Youth Championships 2024

We look forward to welcoming all the fencers at the weekend.

UPDATE 28 February 2024 - U15 Women’s Epee is now combined with U17 Women’s Epee. U15 Women’s Epee Check in is now 9.15 with a 9.45 start.

There is only one change to the planned start times and that is for the U15 Women’s Sabre. To give as much fencing as possible this is now combined with the cadet (U17) event. Women’s 15 sabre check in is no 9.15 with a 9.45 start.

As we may mix gender and age groups everyone is required to wear a 800N under plastron. To be clear this includes those entering the U13 age groups.

Rules and Technical queries

Weapon Sizes

  • U13 foil – size 3

  • U13 epee & sabre – size 2

  • U15 and above, all weapons – size 5

 U13 DEs up to 10 hits and 3 periods of 2 mins, or if sabre, breaking at 5

  • Under Plastrons must be 800N

  • Sabre gloves must be 800N

  • Mask to be double secured (2 points of contact)

  • Chest plate foam/cover – required for U17 upwards in foil

Leon Paul Scotland will be at the event, so to avoid disappointment order your new kit now and collect at the event!

Pre entry information

We will also allow time for anyone entered in the U17 event time to recover for the U20 event later in the day.

Entries after 9am Wednesday 21 February will be at the organisers discretion and it there is no guarantee that they will be accepted. Late entries will cost £55

 We will confirm timings once entries close on 9 am 26 February.

Single entry is £20 and the entry fee for two weapons or age categories is £35 – use the code SYC24TWO for the discounted entry fee.
