Scottish Secondary Schools Teams Championships 2010

6th & 7th March 2010

Scottish FencerVenue: St Thomas of Aquin's High School, 2-20 Chalmers Street, EDINBURGH, EH3 9ES.

Eligibility

Scottish Fencing in the Social, Under 13 or Under 20 category. Social members may only enter if they have not fenced in a competition outside their club since 1 September 2009. Entrants who fail to show proof of membership at check-in will be required to pay the appropriate subscription.

Teams may represent Scottish schools or fencing clubs, which need not be affiliated to Scottish Fencing. Each team member must be a current pupil of the school or member of the club they represent.

Entrants may only appear for one team in any given weapon. For timetabling reasons, entrants cannot fence both epee and sabre, and numbers are limited - see below.

Age Groups
Junior: aged under 15 on 1 January 2010. Senior: aged 15 or over on 1 January 2010.

Competition Format
Entries to each competition are limited in number: the first 6 opened at Scottish Fencing's office will be accepted. Other teams will be waitlisted; they may compete if teams withdraw.

Matches will be fought on the relay system (first team to score 45 hits). Teams must consist of 3 or 4 fencers: 3 fencers are deployed in each match, with a reserve (if available) who may substitute for tactical reasons, or in case of injury or indisposition.

A senior team of 3 may include one junior fencer. A senior team of 4 may include up to 2 junior members but only one may be fielded in each match. A junior reserve may only substitute for the other junior in the team.

Junior teams may not include any senior member and having appeared in a senior team, a junior may not then fence in a junior match at that weapon.

Equipment Regulations
Regulation fencing clothing must be worn, including jacket, underplastron, breeches, knee-length socks, indoor trainers. Tracksuit bottoms cannot be used. The minimum technical specification for clothing is CEN1 (350 Newton). For underplastrons, the minimum specification is CEN2 (800 Newton). For more detailed information see British Fencing's safety guidelines, published on www.britishfencing.com and obtainable in print from Scottish Fencing's office, address below.
